Heather and Nikki’s shared concern over plastic pollution brought them together in 2016, after years spent on cleanups, data collection, and public education that revealed the staggering scale of the problem—from plastics found in air, soil, rain, and water to traces detected in human bodies and even in the most remote places on Earth. Frustrated by the annual stream of disposable plastic school supplies, Heather created a plastic-free solution for her son’s school, crowdfunding and stocking classrooms with sustainable alternatives. Believing prevention is more effective than dealing with waste after the fact, they transformed their volunteer efforts into Wisdom Supply Co., a small company dedicated to designing practical, plastic-free school supplies and reducing waste in schools.
