Sparrow For Everyone

If you’ve ever walked out of a salon and left still tasting the hair spray or gel or shampoo in the back of your throat hours later, you know the feeling. It lingers. It clings. It makes your stomach turn in a way that feels anything but luxurious.

The older I get — and the more I’ve removed artificial fragrances and toxic ingredients from my daily life — the more I realize how deeply my body responds to what I put on and around it. How most peoples body would respond if they used cleaner products.

Which is why what Suki has built feels so important.

I met Suki back when I worked at a flower shop in Logan Square across from her salon Sparrow (which just got voted the number 1 hair salon in Chicago by Time Out Chicago!) . She is focused, determined, and cares about her clients and what she uses in their hair. I admire her — not just for her work ethic, but for the way she cares about what she puts into the world.

Over time, that intention evolved into something even bigger: Sparrow For Everyone.

Sparrow For Everyone isn’t just a hair product line. It’s the natural extension of Suki’s values. Products made with integrity. Without the artificial fragrances and unnecessary fillers that so many of us have unknowingly tolerated for years. These are rock star formulas — high-performing, thoughtfully crafted, and genuinely good for you.

What I love most is that you don’t have to choose between clean and effective. The products work. They feel beautiful. They smell subtle and real — not synthetic and overpowering.

I personally love and use the Hair Cream — it’s a staple in my routine. But my next purchase will absolutely be The Magic because my fine, thin hair can use all the volume help it can get.

Suki’s passion for her salon, her clients, and the products she uses is the same passion she’s poured into this line. It’s rare to see someone stay so aligned with their values over so many years — and even rarer to watch them build something that reflects that alignment so clearly.

Keep reading below to learn more about her journey and HERE to learn more about the product line.

And while you’re at it — stock up. Your hair (and your nervous system) will thank you.

1.  What problem were you most determined to solve when creating Sparrow for Everyone?
The overuse of synthetic fragrance, plastic and  overly complicated formulas meant to do only one thing  in the professional haircare industry .

2.  What ingredient (or tool) feels like a quiet hero in your product line or salon and why?
They're all hero's to me, obvs. The Hair Cream and The Magic get most of the praise, but Good Gel is the unsung hero. It's not a normal gel, and its amazing.

3. What’s a beauty rule you happily broke when building Sparrow?
see answer 1. Suffering through fragrance to get the results I wanted.

4. What hair trend do you secretly love—and which one can rest in peace?
It's no secret, I love blunt bobs and any curls. I don't need to see any more shags for a minute.

5. What’s a misconception people have about owning a salon or product line?
I have no clue what people think anymore. I've created my own ecosystem and I tend not to look outside of it. I know that my partner at Sparrow and I make choices based on equity, health, and kindness,  not always the bottom line. From my experience working for other people, I'm pleased to say that we're not NORMAL.

6.  Finish the sentence: “Sparrow For Everyone exists so that people can…”
Finally feel at home in their hair.

7.How important is ingredient transparency to you, and what ingredients do you actively seek out or avoid?
My chemist and I design products so that they are "appropriate to use on a baby", because I don't understand the norm that at a certain age, we are fine to wear neurotoxins in our hair. weird.
The Hair Cream is clinically tested to be safe for people with sensitive skin and is dermatologist-approved. We avoid Parabens, silicones, synthetic fragrance, and all of my products are vegan and gluten free.

8. Your hair cream works across all hair types—how does it perform differently for curly, straight, and everything in between?
All of my products are made to work across hair types and textures and  can be used for air-dries and blow-dries. The Variable is the amount that you choose to use. The Hair Cream, Specifically, creates vitamin-enriched bouncy, softened hair for both blow-dries and air-dries on all hair types. I always say: start with a pea-sized amount on fine, shoulder-length hair. If you have more hair, use more product. It's completely versatile.

9. Do you remember the exact moment you realized, “I need to make  products myself”? And what was that aha moment?
It was 15 years ago. Sparrow had been open for only 2 years and I started making an essential oil blend for hair and skin. I knew then that what the distrubutors were offering to us as professionals was nonsense.

10.What surprised you most about building a hair brand that you never expected at the start?
Everything we place in our own paths is a part of a healing journey. For me, s4e was about creating clean products for my backwards industry, but also about untangling a thread of self-acceptance and the ability to let myself be seen.

11.What’s getting you excited about the brand right now?

Shampoo. I'm also just proud that I, as an individual, have created Actual innovations in plastic-free haircare where nothing existed before. I've learned that women in business don't need much recognition, which is good because it's harder to get congratulated for our efforts. That said, there are some larger acknowledgments coming down the pipeline for s4e this year, and I know that It's going to feel damn good!
